Coalition Pushing Shareholder Resolutions at Avon and Dow [2] - Sustainable Business, USA
A coalition of 21 health and environment groups are joining the Pesticide Action Network North America (PAN) to encourage mutual funds to support resolutions urging both Dow Chemical Company (DOW) and Avon Products (AVP) to come clean about toxic chemical risks.
A shareholder resolution on nanomaterials risks is scheduled to be voted on at the Avonannual meeting on May 1, 2008. Avon has defended its use of nanoparticles in sunscreens, while the scientific community has raised serious questions about the adequacy of testing.

Natural nano sunscreens - a contradiction? [3] - Cosmetic Design, UE
The existence of effective natural sunscreens depends on the acceptance of nanoparticles as natural, according to an industry insider.
For Hewitt the presence of nanoparticles in a formulation does not stop the product being 'natural'.
Early this year the Soil Association announced that it will not give its organic certification to any product that contains nanoparticles, taking action 'against this hazardous, potentially toxic technology that poses a serious new threat to human health'.
