Two inventories of nanotechnology products - with different goals - are available on the internet:
- The Nanotechnology Consumer Products Inventory

The database developed by the think-tank NanotechProject, is dedicated to helping ensure that as nanotechnologies advance, possible risks are minimized. It includes a regularly updated listing of more than 500 nanotechnology-based consumer products currently on the market
- The Nanoshop
The product directory is maintained by a group of editors, engineers and industry consultants who want "to help promote nanotechnology"

Nanotechnology already is being used to reformulate many of the products we use. Yet despite concern among scientists about dangerous consequences, the federal government has taken a laissez faire approach. Why is there such lax oversight of these exotic, new nanomaterials, and what does that mean for consumers?
